Can\u2019t change the Windows 7 theme? Is your Windows 7 theme stuck on \u201cclassic\u201d?<\/strong> If it is stuck, then you can try to apply a few fixes and see if if you can unstuck it! Use Visual Styles on Windows and Buttons<\/span><\/h2>\n

Often the reason why your Windows 7 theme could be stuck on classic is that your PC is configured to be optimized for better performance. I could imagine that some laptops are even pre-configured that way. Actually, it\u2019s a good setting, but if you want a better appearance I can understand that it\u2019s annoying to be stuck on \u201cclassic\u201d theme. So, if you can\u2019t change your Windows 7 theme, you might want to check your PC configuration first:<\/p>\n

1. Step<\/span><\/strong>Open the Control Panel<\/p>\n

\n2.<\/strong> Click on \u201cSystem and Security\u201d:<\/p>\n

3. Step<\/span><\/strong> Click on \u201cSystem\u201d.<\/p>\n

4. Step<\/span><\/strong> In the sidebar, click on \u201cAdvanced System Settings\u201d:<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> Go to the tab \u201cAdvanced\u201d and click on \u201cSettings\u201d:<\/p>\n

6. Step<\/span><\/strong> Scroll down the list, at the bottom double-check that the item \u201cUse Visual Styles on Windows and Buttons\u201d is checked. If this is not checked, your Windows 7 theme will be stuck on \u201cclassic\u201d for a long time, because this completely disables your fancy visual Aero appearance.<\/p>\n

This is also often the problem why people can\u2019t seem to be able to active the Windows 7 Aero theme, because their PC is configured to be optimized for the best performance and not the best appearance.<\/p>\n

Themes service is not started<\/span><\/h2>\n

If your Windows 7 themes service is not started your Windows 7 theme will be stuck on \u201cclassic\u201d. You can\u2019t change your Windows 7 theme when the theme service is disabled. So, let\u2019s check if your themes service is up and running.<\/p>\n

1. Step<\/span><\/strong> Click on \u201cStart\u201d and enter \u201cservices.msc\u201d into the search field. Click on the item that appears.<\/p>\n

2. Step<\/span><\/strong> Scroll down the list until you find the item \u201cThemes\u201d (or enter Themes while one item is selected)<\/p>\n

3. Step<\/span><\/strong>You will now see if the Themes service is running currently and what mode it is in (Automatic, Disabled, Manual):<\/p>\n

If it\u2019s currently \u201cDisabled\u201d or in \u201cManual\u201d mode and not started, you have to start it manually and change the mode to \u201cAutomatic\u201d.<\/p>\n

4. Step<\/span><\/strong>Double-click on \u201cThemes\u201d and from the dropdown select \u201cAutomatic\u201d, click on \u201cStart\u201d and then on \u201cApply\u201d.<\/p>\n
