Curious about what your competition does for Search Engine Optimization<\/span><\/a> (SEO)? If your answer is a resounding \u201cyes,\u201d then you\u2019re ready to take your SEO<\/span> to the next level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Checking out your competition and learning which keywords they use can help you refine your strategy. This is a common form of analysis to use on any website, whether it\u2019s your competitor\u2019s site or your favorite website.<\/span><\/p>\n

You can identify your competitor\u2019s keywords in a few different places on their website:<\/span><\/p>\n

Keywords in the Code<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Start by checking out their meta tags<\/span>, such as the title tag or the keywords tag. Typically, the first keyword in a title tag is usually the most important. Use these steps to view the code:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Go to the website, and then right-click the page.<\/li>\n
  2. Click\u00a0View Source<\/strong>. A new window opens with the website\u2019s code.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The\u00a0<\/span><title><\/span><\/strong>tag<\/span><\/span> is near the top of the page. If the site includes it, the\u00a0<\/span>meta name=\u201dkeywords\u201d<\/span><\/strong>tag should be a few lines below. Both of these contain your competitor\u2019s keywords.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Keywords in the Text<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Checking out your competitor\u2019s content for keywords also helps you analyze your competition. A keyword density checker (search \u201ckeyword density checker\u201d in any search engine) can quickly determine which keywords are prominent in their copy. Or, you can simply use \u201cfind\u201d (press CTRL-F on your keyboard) to search for specific keywords.<\/span><\/p>\n
