Microsoft is investigating the issues and will update this page when a fix is available. In the meantime, please use the workarounds suggested for each issue. They have categorized it in seven scenarios.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Issue#1: Error when opening an attachment is an email, contact, or task formatted as Rich Text.<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\">This issue affects Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010.<\/p>\n<p>When you open an attachment in an email, contact, or task formatted as Rich Text you get the following error:<a href=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook-2010-2007-this-program-used-to-create-is-outlook-not-installed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11123\" src=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook-2010-2007-this-program-used-to-create-is-outlook-not-installed.jpg\" alt=\"outlook-2010-2007-this-program-used-to-create-is-outlook-not-installed\" width=\"591\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook-2010-2007-this-program-used-to-create-is-outlook-not-installed.jpg 400w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook-2010-2007-this-program-used-to-create-is-outlook-not-installed-300x78.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 591px) 100vw, 591px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You may also see:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11127\" src=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"344\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook2.jpg 344w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook2-300x147.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 344px) 100vw, 344px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">STATUS: WORKAROUND<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Forward the email to yourself and then open the attachments from the forwarded email.<\/li>\n<li>Change the email format to HTML, or Text format.<\/li>\n<li>Save the attachments to your computer, using one of the following methods, then open them from the saved location: Drag and drop the attachments to your desktop.<br \/>\nGo to <b class=\"ocpUI\">File<\/b> &gt; <b class=\"ocpUI\">Save Attachments<\/b>.<br \/>\nCopy and paste the attachment to your computer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Issue#2: Opening Mail Attachment warning when opening an attachment that includes consecutive periods<\/h3>\n<p class=\"\">This issue affects Outlook 2007, Outlook 2010, Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2016.<\/p>\n<p>When opening an attachment that includes consecutive periods <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">(&#8230;)<\/b>, or an exclamation point <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">(!)<\/b>, the files are blocked and you receive an <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">Opening Mail Attachment<\/b> warning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11128\" src=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"383\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook3.png 383w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook3-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Or if an email message includes an attached email message, and the attached email message&#8217;s subject line ends with an unsafe file name extension as listed in the <a class=\"ocpArticleLink\" href=\"https:\/\/support.office.com\/en-us\/article\/Blocked-attachments-in-Outlook-434752e1-02d3-4e90-9124-8b81e49a8519\">Blocked attachments in Outlook<\/a>, the email attachment will be blocked for recipients.<\/p>\n<h4><b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">STATUS: WORKAROUND<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>If you get the <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">Opening Mail Attachment<\/b> warning, and you&#8217;re sure the attachment was sent from a trusted source, proceed to <b class=\"ocpUI\">Open<\/b> or <b class=\"ocpUI\">Save<\/b> the attachment.<\/p>\n<p>If the file is blocked because of a potentially unsafe file extension, ask the sender to save the email message to their computer and rename its subject line so that it does not end with an unsafe file name extension. Then, attach it to the email message and resend.<\/p>\n<h3>Issue#3: Error when setting ShowLevel1Attach to allow Outlook to display Level 1 attachments<\/h3>\n<p>This issue affects Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016.<\/p>\n<p>If you set ShowLevel1Attach to allow Outlook to display Level 1 attachments, you may see the error: \u201c<i class=\"ocpItalic\">One or more objects in this file have been disabled due to your policy settings<\/i>\u201d.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b class=\"ocpWarning\">WARNING:<\/b>\u00a0Typically, Level 1 attachments are blocked. If you have enabled this policy, users can see Level 1 attachments in Outlook. If you use any of the workarounds to open the files, please make sure they are safe to open. When this registry key is set, Outlook will use its own built-in search engine. The built-in search will display the message below to indicate it is not using the Windows Search service.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11133\" src=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1002\" height=\"103\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook8.png 400w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook8-300x31.png 300w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook8-768x79.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1002px) 100vw, 1002px\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">Disable Windows Desktop Search Service for Outlook<\/b>:<\/p>\n<div class=\"ocpAlert\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"ocpAlertSection\"><b class=\"ocpNote\">NOTE:<\/b>\u00a0The following steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Please make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. MAPI was unable to load the information service C:\\PROGRA~2\\COMMON~1\\Apple\\Internet Services\\APLZOD.dll. Be sure the service is correctly installed and configured.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11134\" src=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook9.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"110\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook9.png 869w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook9-300x38.png 300w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook9-768x97.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 869px) 100vw, 869px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">STATUS: WORKAROUND<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>The loading of unregistered MAPI services has been disabled by default to make Outlook more secure.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ocpAlert\">\n<p class=\"ocpAlertSection\"><b class=\"ocpWarning\">WARNING:<\/b>\u00a0This workaround may make your computer or your network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. Microsoft does not recommend this workaround but is providing this information so that you can choose to implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>If you have trusted applications that depend on being loaded in this manner, you can re-enable those applications by setting the following registry key:<\/p>\n<p>REG_DWORD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Office\\12.0\\Outlook\\Security\\<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">AllowUnregisteredMapiServices<\/b><\/p>\n<p>You can use the following registry subkey to apply the registry setting as a domain policy:<\/p>\n<p>HKCU\\Software\\Policies\\Microsoft\\Office\\12.0\\Outlook\\Security\\<b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">AllowUnregisteredMapiServices<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Value 0 (default): Block loading of unregistered MAPI services. This is the recommended setting to avoid unexpected execution of unknown code.<\/p>\n<p>Value 1: Enable loading of unregistered MAPI services.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ocpAlert\">\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"ocpAlertSection\"><b class=\"ocpNote\">IMPORTANT:<\/b>\u00a0The following steps show you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Please make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, see <a class=\"ocpExternalLink\" href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/322756\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this article<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>To make these registry changes, follow these steps:<\/p>\n<ol type=\"1\">\n<li>Click <b class=\"ocpUI\">Start<\/b>, click <b class=\"ocpUI\">Run<\/b>, type <i class=\"ocpItalic\">regedit<\/i> in the <b class=\"ocpUI\">Open<\/b> box, and then click <b class=\"ocpUI\">OK<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:<i class=\"ocpItalic\">HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Office\\12.0\\Outlook\\Security\\<\/i><\/li>\n<li>On the <b class=\"ocpUI\">Edit<\/b> menu, point to <b class=\"ocpUI\">New<\/b>, and then click <b class=\"ocpUI\">DWORD Value<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>Type <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">AllowUnregisteredMapiServices<\/b> for the name of the <b class=\"ocpUI\">DWORD<\/b>, and then press Enter.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <b class=\"ocpUI\">AllowUnregisteredMapiServices<\/b>, and then click <b class=\"ocpUI\">Modify<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <b class=\"ocpUI\">Value data<\/b> box, type <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">1<\/b> to enable the registry entry, and then click <b class=\"ocpUI\">OK<\/b>.\n<div class=\"ocpAlert\">\n<p class=\"ocpAlertSection\"><b class=\"ocpNote\">NOTE:<\/b>\u00a0To disable the <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">AllowUnregisteredMapiServices<\/b> setting, type <b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">0<\/b> (zero), and then click <b class=\"ocpUI\">OK<\/b>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">Vulnerability information (applies to all versions)<\/b><\/p>\n<p>MAPI does not validate that a provider\u2019s DLL that it is requested to load is registered correctly in MapiSVC.inf or even that it comes from the local machine. This can be exploited by creating a file together with an OLE object in such a way to cause MAPI to load a DLL from a network share when the OLE object is activated. This can allow arbitrary code execution to occur.<\/p>\n<h3>Issue#7: When printing a specific iframe or frame in a web page, the print output may be blank, or text is printed with a 404<\/h3>\n<p>This issue affects all Outlook versions on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10.<\/p>\n<p>When you print a specific iframe or frame in a web page, the print output may be blank, or text is printed that resembles the following:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-11135\" src=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook10.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"426\" height=\"40\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook10.png 426w, https:\/\/southjerseytechies.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/outlook10-300x28.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 426px) 100vw, 426px\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"ocpAlert\">\n<p class=\"ocpAlertSection\"><b class=\"ocpNote\">NOTE:<\/b>\u00a0A frame is a part of a web page or browser window that displays content independent of its container. A frame can load content independently.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>This problem has also been observed in both Internet Explorer 11, and in applications that host the IE Web Browser Control.<\/p>\n<h4><b class=\"ocpLegacyBold\">STATUS: INVESTIGATING<\/b><\/h4>\n<p>There is currently no workaround for this issue. However, if you print the entire web page, it will print correctly.
